TOM & ROSEMARY AKERS
UNSUNG HEROES of HOUSTON GEM & MINERAL SOCIETY
Tom & Rosemary Akers are long time members of Houston Gem & Mineral Society and truly Unsung Heroes of this organization.
Together they have written and illustrated eight in the series of books, which the Paleo Section of HGMS have then published. Their generosity to HGMS and the Paleo Section of HGMS is legendary. They are appreciated and we are awaiting receiving more biographical information on these two fine members of HGMS.
Thomas J. Akers earned a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1952 and a Master of Science Degree in Biology & Organic Chemistry in 1954 from Oregon State University. He worked for Shell Oil Company for 33 years in their Research Laboratories and technical services.
Rosemary E. Akers earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology in 1949 from Montana University. She worked in the medical laboratories of many hospitals and in doctors offices and clinics.
Together they have 35 plus years of hunting, identifying, studying, drawing, writing and having published the eight books for the Paleontology Section of Houston Gem & Mineral Society. They joined the HGMS in 1973.
The Akers have Co-authored six books on Texas Cretaceous echinoids, ammonites, gastropods and bivalves AND (2) Texas Pennsylvanian brachipods, all through the Paleo Section of HGMS.
